Not far from Phoenix, this is a great there-and-back hike along Tom's Thumb Trail in McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Arizona. The trail is moderate going uphill along numerous switchbacks for the first half of the walk. The landscapes are delightful across the Mcdowell Mountains, vibrant with many native plant species and unique rock formations.
