The Petra Piana refuge is the highest point of this stage, which begins with a long descent. The path runs along the Manganello through the communal forest of Vivario, up to the Tolla footbridge. Finally, it goes up to the Onda refuge.
Note that there is an alternative to this eighth stage, passing through the crests and the point of Pinzi Corbini. This option is shorter, but also technical, aerial, and not recommended in strong winds. It also features snow later in the season.
