This is an iconic loop in the Peak District National Park going through Mam Tor, Castelton, and the Great Ridge. The trail is moderate, beginning with some light uphills, then going down and finally coming back up a bit steeply to finish the loop. The terrain is varied alternating between narrow rocky footpaths, dirt trails and little paved sections. It can get a little muddy after a large rainfall.
The views are beautiful throughout with peaks rising on both sides of the ridge and many landmarks that are worth stopping for. On the way back Castleton is a lovely place to make a refreshing stop before continuing on to Cave Dale, an impressive limestone formation.
