One way hike starting from Mangatepopo Carpark all the way to Ketetahi Carpark through the lengendary Tongariro Alpine crossing. Almost 20 kilometers filled with breathtaking and iconic views in an active volcanic zone. The landscapes alternate between changing colored rocks and turquoise lagoons. Lord of the Rings fans will be happy to walk by the base of mount Ngauruhoe, i.e. Mount Doom as they enjoy these volcanic mountain sights.
Note: a shuttle is available at the Tongariro Carpark (located 1.5km further down the trail) back to Mangatepopo for NZ$60.
