The 10 most beautiful waterfalls in France

High, wide, powerful, gentle, multiple... With waterfalls, there's something for everyone! And their magic invariably works on hikers, bringing them freshness and wonder.

We therefore wanted to discover the most beautiful waterfalls in France. It was not easy to make a choice, but here are our top 10.

10. The Nideck waterfall, Bas-Rhin

In the heart of the Vosges massif, the Nideck waterfall is a 25-meter-high waterfall cascading down a wall of volcanic rock. It is reached by a loop path, which also passes by the ruins of a castle from the Middle Ages.

9. The Beaume waterfall, Haute-Loire

Our top 10 continues in Haute-Loire, in the heart of the Agizoux forest. A short return path takes you to the very beautiful Beaume waterfall, 27 meters high, located a few kilometers before the river flows into the Loire.

8. The Saud du Doubs, Doubs

Here is a waterfall 27 meters high, located on the Franco-Swiss border in the Jura massif. The Saut du Doubs can be discovered via several belvederes accessible by a charming path in the heart of the forest, unless you opt for one of the many boats sailing on Lac des Brenets.

7. The waterfalls at the end of the Combe, Haute-Savoie

This easy walk, with a low elevation, takes place in the immense amphitheater of glacial origin that is the Fer à Cheval. In the spring, many waterfalls tumble down the cliffs and present a magnificent picture.

6. The waterfall of the cirque of Saint-Même, Savoie

This is a hike that is small in distance, but big in scenery. This loop between forest and torrent allows you to admire the many waterfalls of Saint-Même, within a circus dominated by cliffs 500 meters high. Stunning.

5. The Trou de Fer waterfall, Reunion

An emblematic place on Reunion Island, the Trou de Fer is a 300-meter-deep abyss into which several waterfalls flow. The trail proposed here is located mainly in the forest of Bélouve, and allows you to obtain several points of view of the waterfall without however approaching it.

4. Carbet Falls, Guadeloupe

The Carbet Falls impress with their size: the first is 115 meters high, and the second 100 meters. They are unquestionably the most beautiful waterfalls in Guadeloupe, accessible by a pretty winding path in the middle of the tropical forest.

Note, however, that access to this hike is subject to a charge.

3. The Hérisson waterfalls, Jura 🥉

The Hérisson waterfalls have long been a favorite of visitors to the Jura. This succession of about thirty waterfalls, located on an energetic torrent, offers a magnificent setting for a spring stroll.

2. The Ars waterfall, Ariège 🥈

The Ars waterfall consists of a first fall of 100 meters high, then several small jumps, totaling a height of 246 meters. Spectacular, it is discovered through a loop hike in the heart of a very beautiful forest.

1. The Gavarnie cirque waterfall, Hautes-Pyrénées 🥇

Finally, the prize for the most beautiful waterfall in France goes to that of the Cirque de Gavarnie, located in the Pyrenees National Park.

First, and although size is not everything, it is the highest waterfall in France with 422 meters. And secondly, it has a sumptuous setting, in the heart of a majestic glacial cirque traversed by a path accessible to all. A delight !
