Gentle slopes, numerous lakes, fir forests alternating with flowery meadows... Here are the characteristic landscapes of the Vosges, an ideal massif for nature lovers.
With several thousand kilometers of trails well maintained by the famous Club Vosgien, there is no shortage of ways to discover this territory rich in history and know-how. So to make it easier for you, here is our selection of the best hikes in the Vosges.
We begin this selection with a large loop trail to discover four lakes: Lac Blanc, Lac Noir, Lac Forlet (also known as Lac des Truites) and Lac Vert. The landscapes are varied, between the Vosges crests, the lawn of Faing and the many bodies of water. And the panoramas are superb, over the Vosges and the Black Forest.
Note that the trails are numerous and that shorter variants exist, available on Hika.
Departing from the Col de Bramont, this loop hike leads to a belvedere offering a magnificent view of Lac des Corbeaux. The landscapes are varied, in the forest and at the edge of the water, with also a passage by the pond of Sèchemer.
The Roches trail, also known as Felsenpfad and Strohmeyerpfad, is one of the most original trails in the Vosges. Created at the beginning of the 20th century, it is partly cut into the rock and has several walkways and stairs, making it both difficult and famous.
Please note: this trail is technical and should be avoided by people prone to vertigo.
We continue this selection of the most beautiful hikes in the Vosges with one of its most famous peaks: the Donon. Gallo-Roman remains and a 19th century temple bear witness to a mystical past. The summit (1,008 meters) offers a magnificent panorama with Lorraine on one side and the Bruche Valley on the other.
This hike allows you to discover the lakes of Neuweiher and the pastures of Gresson, splendid landscapes typical of the Vosges. The circuit is well laid out for a lunch break, whether it's a picnic by the water or a stop at the Neuweiher and Gresson inns.
Near Ochsenstein castle, here is a short walk to reach the Geissfels terrace, which offers a very beautiful 360° view of the Moselle, Alsace and the Dabo rock.
Departing from the charming town of Ribeauvillé, this circuit allows you to discover three castles: Girsberg, Saint-Ulrich and Haut-Ribeaupierre. The path is initially in the forest, before offering a nice panorama of the surroundings. Do not hesitate to plan more time to visit the castles.
Finally, we end this Vosges selection with a loop hike passing its highest peak: the Grand Ballon (1,423 meters). The panorama is of course exceptional, over Alsace, the Black Forest and the Jura. The path takes several passes and runs along the pretty Lac du Ballon.
